National Model Charity Search

Here's my shameless blog post, but it's really for a great cause. A few weeks ago, I went out to visit my favorite photographer, Teri Mason and we photographed Kaden and Kensley and I entered them into a national charity model search that will benefit the Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep foundation. I would love to have your vote. Each vote is $1 and the $1 per vote goes to this amazing charity. Just click the link to vote for Kaden and Kensley Now, I’m not banking that we will win a national model search, but A. I love that we are raising money for an awesome charity, B. I got some awesome pics of the kids from my favorite photographer, and C. maybe we’ll have a shot at winning the local voting, which includes a basket of goodies from Teri and you guys know how obsessed I am with Teri Mason Photography. If you have any spare change we would love your vote!!

Tube Fairy

Today we had a follow up ENT appt for Kensley. Several blog posts ago I had talked about her tubes being out, but still being trapped in her ears due to a wax blockage. Today the ENT tried to remove the tubes and one just would not break lose and since it is an unpleasant procedure, he did not force the removal in her left ear. However, he was able to vacuum the wax and tube out in her right ear. He then handed me the tube and told me the "tube fairy" would probably make at stop at our house. Kensley was beyond excited and since she was such a good and brave girl for the removal procedure, the tube fairy will indeed be stopping at our house tonight. We go back to the ENT in 6 weeks to check on a couple of things. Kensley has fluid on both ears, but no infection at this time. Her hearing has gone down since the last visit, but that is due to the fluid. The Dr. ordered mucinex everyday for the next 6 weeks and then we will see how things look then.

Nature's Playdough

Since the weather has been bad and the kids had a wee bit of cabin fever, I made homemade playdough this afternoon. It was super simple and the kids enjoyed playing with it. This was the 1st time I had ever made playdough on the stove top and it turned out nicely. I cheated a little bit and used food coloring with the water instead of the veggie juices as mentioned below.

1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1 cup water
2 tablespoons oil
2 tablespoons cream of tartar
beet, spinach, and carrot juice

Mix flour, salt and oil, and slowly add the water. Cook over medium heat, stirring until dough becomes stiff. Turn out onto wax paper and let cool. Knead the playdough with your hands until of proper consistency. Use as is, or divide into balls and add a few drops of the vegetable juices to make green, pink, and orange.

The Race Is On...

This evening while I was bathing Kohen I happened to notice that her top front tooth is about to break through. The race is on to see if the top is going to beat her other bottom tooth that has been trying to break through. Right now she looks like sweet pea because she only has that one lonely bottom tooth, but that is all about to change!! Pretty soon our baby girl is going to have 3 teeth.

Peas, Pasta, and Pink Knees

That's a whole lot of P's for one day!! On Saturday Kohen had sweet peas for the very 1st time and boy did she love them!! She gobbled them right up. Guess what she had for dinner tonight?? Peas again. However, she was very interested in the bow tie pasta that we were eating. I gave in to her puppy dog eyes and put some teeny tiny pieces on her high chair tray and boy did that make her happy. She loved feeding herself the little pasta pieces. I was very impressed that she could pick them up and put them right into her mouth. Pasta was another food 1st for us this evening. Our food list is getting longer and longer. She is way more interested in food than K&K were at this age. It's really neat watching her discover all these new textures and tastes. Although this is such a neat and exciting time, it is also a little bittersweet. As I watched her feed herself this evening, I got a little misty eyed because I can not believe my baby is 8 months old tomorrow. I know I repeat this way too much, but where in the world has the last 8 months gone? Didn't I just bring home a newborn yesterday?? Speaking of not being a newborn anymore brings me to the pink knees. Little missy is trying so hard to crawl.
In fact, she tried so hard today that she now has pink knees from carpet.
However, I found a solution to our pink knee problem. I remembered that I had saved these little thigh high things that I bought for Kensley for this specific problem. Viola....problem has been solved and she now has some extra protection for her knees.

Notice Anything different???

Does anyone notice anything different about Kohen??

I'll give you one hint, bling. Yep, we finally got Kohen's ears pierced today. We got Kensley's done when she was 4 months old so we were a little behind on Kohen's, but none the less we finally got them done. She did great and hardly cried at all, which was a relief. In 6 weeks I can take these out and put the diamonds in that Papu got her. My Dad got both of the girls diamond earrings right before each of their births. Isn't that super sweet and special? My Dad has a way of spoiling all of his girls. I guess you could officially say, that Kensley and Kohen were spoiled in the womb.

What makes me happy??

Well, there is nothing that makes me happier than our family photographs. This morning, I got on a rearranging spree. It was either rearranging or painting. I have yet to paint a room in our house and if you know me, you know how much that is killing me because I love color. Today it was too cold to paint, so I rearrange my maternity/newborn pictures that Teri took last year. I love the way all of the pics look grouped together. Originally, I had a newborn grouping and then our maternity/family grouping. I'm thrilled about this new grouping and I love that I get to see them a million times a day going up and down the stairs. BTW, ignore the blank frame in the middle. That will soon be replaced. The original one got knocked down during a playdate and the glass scratched it all up.

Hanging with The Browns

This afternoon we had a play date over at Sarah's and if you ever been to Sarah's house you know about this incredible hill they have in their backyard. Kaden's favorite thing to do is to get into McCade's inflatable boat and go sailing down the hill. Seriously, this is something that he could do over and over and over again. The kids had a great time playing in the beautiful 70 something degree weather, while I stuffed my face because Betty Crocker aka Sarah made brownies and quesdillas. While the kids were playing I got to take some pics of Addie. I had my trusty assistants Parker and Kohen at my side and I think we got some really good pics for Sarah. Addie is such a beautiful baby. I just love her red hair and bright blue eyes. Here are some pics from today and since I've been on a collage kick I created one for Sarah too. Thanks for having us over Sarah!! Hope you enjoy your pics of Addie.

Update on Elizabeth

A week or so ago I posted a prayer request for my friend Elizabeth and I just wanted to let you all know that she and her baby are doing well and that she greatly appreciated your prayers. I've talked to Elizabeth a couple of times and her spirits are up and baby Gavin is doing well for a baby of his gestational age. Last night Elizabeth shared a picture with an update and Gavin is a cutie pie indeed. He will remain in the NICU for several more weeks and Elizabeth has asked for us to please pray for breathing improvement (to requiring zero breathing assistance), quick mastery of "suck, swallow, breath" coordination (so that he may eat without a tube), and for continued health and weight gain. In addition to these prayer requests I would also like for you to pray for Elizabeth and Mike's health and strength. I know the constant back and forth to the hospital can take a toll on your health, trying to juggle a house hold, not to mention Elizabeth is recovering from a c-section, and both her and Mike are trying to keep some day-to-day normalcy for Gavin's big brother. Mike also started a new job right before Gavin's birth so needless to say, things have been a little crazy for them. Your continues prayers are greatly appreciated and as I continue to get updates I will post.

Sweet Potatoes

This evening I made Kohen sweet potatoes for the very 1st time. She really seemed to enjoy them. We can now add this to the list of foods that she has tried. I also made and froze sweet peas today so those will be next on our list to try. I'm addicted to making baby food. It is so much easier to make and store instead of buying a million jars of baby food. I think I might try making teething biscuits later this week.

Foods that Kohen has tried
7. Sweet potatoes
6. Potatoes
5. Apple
4. Acorn Squash
3. Avocados
2. Bananas
1. Rice Cereal

Mocha facial anyone??

No, this is not poop on my face. I have not completely gone off the deep end, yet. I got an email the other day, from a day spa in Georgetown that I have been to a couple of times and they had this coffee/coco facial and I thought I would give it a try last night. When it started to dry it did make my face a little itchy, but once I washed it off my face was so super soft. Here is the recipe if you want to try it at home. Have fun!!

SPA Home Recipe of the Month!| Mocha Facial Mask
Clean skin holds more moisture and looks brighter. The milk and coffee contain natural food acids that help rid your skin of surface debris and dead skin cells. The cocoa powder helps condition and soothe your complexion. Use weekly to wake up a dull complexion--especially in the winter!
Mix together 4 TBS of finally ground espresso or coffee; 4 TBS of cocoa powder, 8 TBS of whole milk until you have a smooth paste. Spread over clean face and neck. Let sit for 15 minutes and rinse well with warm water. BONUS : Smells great but adds no calories to your diet! Great for keeping your New Years Resolution.

I think the pic says it all....

Kensley was playing dolls a few mins ago and she said, "Look Mommy, I'm feeding my baby just like you." I had my camera within arms reach and you know me, I had to take a pic.

Here Ya Go Diana

Okay, by all means, I'm no professional, but I love playing photographer. I think your pics turned out pretty good from today. Here's your collage with all of my favs.

Down at The Davis Rodeo

On Saturday we packed up and headed straight to the Davis Rodeo. We did not stop until we reached our destination, which was the front door of Les and Diana's house. Not too bad considering it is a 2 hr drive with 3 kids in tote. As soon as we arrived the kids went 90 to nothing. It was great!! I seriously think I saw Kaden for like 20 minutes total for the 24 hours that we were there and Kensley was just giddy that she got to play in make up and dress up with Leslie. The kids were in their element and Diana,Les,Ken, and I got to kick back a couple of cold ones, chat, and catch up. Of course, we had to get in a couple of sessions of Rock Band, which is always fun and thanks to Les, Ken wants a new toy, but I have to remind him that we do not live in the country, so therefore, we really have no need for a 4 wheeler. Yes, I'm such a mean wife, lol!! We had a super fun and relaxing weekend. Before we left today, I got to play photographer and I took family pics for Diana and I'm working on a collage for her. I can't wait to finish it!! Thanks Diana and Les for being super hosts and for having us over this weekend. We really enjoyed it and can't wait to see you guys again!!

Last Tuesday I went to make our photo selection from our recent photo shoot with Teri and boy does she make it hard!! All of the pics were great and I had such a hard time making my selections. I'm planning to place a grouping over our bed in our bedroom this time. Here's the sneak peek that Teri put up on her blog. As always, I loved all of the pictures and could not be more pleased with Teri's work. I'm telling you, you have to go and see her. You will have a family photographer for life!!

Please Pray for Harper

I was just talking about Kelly's blog the other day. I was telling Courtney that I personally did not know Kelly, but I had been checking it everyday since she was expecting any day now. My stomach was just in knots when I started reading her posts from yesterday and today. Sweet Harper was born yesterday, but was in critical condition. She was airlifted to Tulsa and from what I just read it looks like she is doing better, but still needs our prayers. I could not even begin to imagine what everyone must be going through. Please continue to keep Harper in your thought in prayers. The power of prayer is amazing.

Some More of My Favs

Here is what I got today, so I guess I will be trying again this weekend for a shot for our Valentine.

Here are a few more of my favs from today. Can you tell I'm a B&W junkie??

All in the name of love

Courtney inspired me to create Valentine photo cards this year. Today I did a photo shoot all in the name of love. I got some great pics of her kiddos and Parker, but mine were not too cooperative.

Puffs

Kohen had Gerber Puffs for the 1st time yesterday and even though they were a little strange at first, I think she liked them.

Where does their enegry come from??

Yesterday we have a playdate at our house. It consisted of 4 mom including myself, 8 kids between 2-5 and 4 babies. Holy sleep the house was hoping and it was a lot of fun. The kids played wonderfully and all of us Moms got to enjoy lunch and some adult conversation. After everyone left Kaden was so bummed that he did not have anyone to play with and he actually said he was bored!! What?? He then proceeded to ask Parker, the 13 month old I watch to come play in his room. Well, he was uterrly disappointed when I told him that Kohen and Parker needed to take a nap. Then he begged Kensley to come play in his room. She obliged his requested and they actually played and watched a movie together. They continuned to play until Ken got home and then they immdetaly wanted Ken to play with them. I swer they played pirates FOREVER last night. Meanwhile, I took a nice long bubble bath with zero interruption from the kids and not long after that I went to bed. I was wiped out. I asked the kids if they ever get tired of playing and the answer was NO!! Awww, the joys of childhood. If I only had half their enegry!!

Future Underwear Model??

Kohen has quite a few adorable diaper covers and I thought it would be cute to take pics of her modeling them all. Here's our future underwear model in the making.

American Idol

I found this clip today and had to share since Amercian Idol is starting back up. I've been working on my digi scrapbooking and I started going back through my 2007 pics and this is where I found this clip. Kaden was probably about 3.5 in this pic. Gosh, it is crazy to think my 1st baby is going to start Kindergarten this Fall. My oh my, how time zooms by!!!

Gigi and Papa Chris

Today Gigi and Papa Chris made their way to our house from Corpus Christi. Once they arrived we got to enjoy one more Christmas. After the kids played with their new toys and we visited for a while, we then headed down to Pappadeaux for Ken's birthday dinner. We were there for almost 3 hours and the kids did fantastic. We totally stuffed ourselves silly!!! We had a wonderful dinner and we are looking forward to spending tomorrow with Gigi and Papa Chris. Since we have now celebrated our last Christmas for the 2008 season, the decorations are finally coming down tomorrow!! Wow, our house is going to seem so bare. I guess I will need to start decorating for Valentines day.

Prayer Request

Just wanted to take a minute and ask for you all to keep my friend, Elizabeth and her family in your thoughts and prayers. Today they welcomed their 2nd son into the world just a little over 31 weeks. Fortunately/unfortunately, they have been down this road before and pretty much know what to expect since their 1st son was also born around the same time frame. BTW, he is a smart, vibrant, and thriving 4 year old today. You would never know that he arrived 2 months early. I know these next few weeks/months will seem crazy, chaotic, and trying, and I would like to ask you guys to keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Ken's Birthday Dinner

Last night we celebrated Ken's 35th birthday at Pappasito's with my parents, Auntie Chur-Chur and Eric. The queso, beer, and fajitas were right on the money!! I think Ken had a great birthday and he totally deserved it because this past week work has been very trying to say the least. Ken racked up in the gift department and we ended dinner on a funny and embarrassing note. The Pappasito's crew put a huge sombrero on Ken's and sang happy birthday to him. He quickly got over the embarrassment when he saw the huge basket of sopapillas with all the different dipping sauces.

Happy Birthday Sweetheart!!

Happy Birthday to my rock star husband!! Since, Ken shares a birthday with the King of Rock and Roll, I think it's only appropriate to put an Elvis twist on my birthday shout out. So, here goes....

Almost 9 years of marriage,3 kids later, and many birthdays celebrated in between, "I can't help falling in love with you."I love you and hope you have a wonderful birthday. Have a fabulous day!!!

Here kitty kitty

Seriously, I think Ken is Noah and I'm not kidding. Animals love him. This evening when we got back from Kung Fu we were getting out of the car and he said he heard a kitten. I just blew if off and continued to get Kohen out of the car. Well, he started making this calling noise he always used to do with Gat and guess what??? 2 kittens came out of the bush in our front yard. They came right up to Ken and started following him around. They are super cute. Well, an hr or so goes by and guess what? They found their way to our garage because we did not shut the door and they proceeded to go inside. Ken took some trash out and found them all curled up on a rug sleeping. K&K would flip if they were here because they have been asking for a pet and we are like NO WAY. They just kept meowing and they followed us into the house and we could not resist. We heated up some warm milk for them. Are we suckers or what?? I'm thinking they belong to someone because they have flea collars on and they are super tame. We have never seen them in the neighborhood so I'm hoping someone did not dump them out. Well, our bleeding hearts are getting the best of us or shall I say Ken because he went to the store to buy food for these hungry little things. If they stay around in our yard and no one claims them I guess we will keep them as outdoor cats ,but there is no way we are ever having an indoor cat again. I could not resit taking pics to share and yes, the stray cats are drinking out of my Southern Living Tibit bowls.....

What's one more???

First and foremost, thanks for all the well wishes for Kohen. I took her in at 11:30 today and the Pedi said the cyst/enlarged breast tissue "thingy" looks and feels normal and is nothing to worry about for the time being. The Pedi measured it and we are just going to keep an eye on it. If it grows or the area becomes red and or bothersome to Kohen then we will do an ultrasound. She said this is common and I do not need to worry. I trust our Pedi and I will march to the tune of keeping an eye on it. I feel much better after consulting with our Pedi today.

Okay, so back to my title. Yes, that means one more kid. No, I'm not pregnant, but I have added another kiddo to our daily adventure. Today I started watching, Tabitha's son, Parker. Her current daycare situation was not working out and I was looking to make some extra spending cash so I agreed to fulfill her part-time daycare dilemma. It's actually a win/win for the both of us. He is 13 months and is such a good baby. We've had quite the day and he did awesome. I picked him up at 9:30 and then we all headed to Teri Mason's for Kaden's photo shoot. I stayed in the car with all the kids while Teri took Kaden's photos. I can not wait to see K&K photo's next Tuesday. I know of course I will love everything and now that I will have some extra spending money of my own I can fund my picture obsession.

After our shoot we went to pick up my Mom. I was not sure how long I would be in the Pedi and I was a little nervous taking 4 kids. Parker fell asleep in the car and my Mom stayed in the car with the kids. After that we all went out for lunch at Mighty Fine Burgers and it was very yummy. We came back to the house and the kids napped and played and played and played.

So, the point of my post was, once you've had more than 2 kids you are numb and it's nothing to add one more to the mix. I'm sure Ken is going to want to make a trip to the urologist to get snippy snip because he says we are done. I say, never say never:-)

My unsettling discovery

This evening I was giving Kohen a bath and while I was bathing her, I happened to find a pea size something/cyst/lump/on her left breast. It is right under the nipple. You can not see it, but you can definitely feel it. Not sure how long it has been there or what it is. I wonder what the heck it is?? I wonder if she could have enlarge breast tissue from my hormones from breast feeding her or if it could be a fatty deposit, or etc?? She has been exclusively breast feed up until about a month ago when I started slowly introducing a few solids. I will be calling the Pedi 1st thing in the morning. I just want to know that it is nothing to worry about. I hate finding something like this at 8:30 at night because now I will worry until I can talk to the Pedi. in the morning. I am sure it is probably nothing to worry about because yes, I've already googled it, but I just hate the fact that it is there. Please keep Kohen in your thoughts and prayers and I will update after I talk with the Pedi tomorrow.

2009 Fiesta Bowl Champs!!!!

My orange blood is pumping tonight and I'm loving my Longhorns. What a game!! Tomorrow I will have to go and purchase my 2009 Fiesta Bowl Champs shirt. I told Ken he better go and take our Texas flag down tonight. Our neighbor is a Buckeye Alumni and they just might egg our house and take off with our Texas flag. Hey BCS, stick this in you pipe....

I'm in teething @#!!

I've been climbing the walls with Kohen today. She is normally the best baby in the entire world so when she sends a curve ball my way I do not how to act. I think her teeth are really bothering her today. She has been fussy and has been fighting sleep all day. I only got 3 cat naps(about 1hr total sleep) from her today. She just now finally gave it up and went to sleep. She is sleeping in my lap right now. I'm afraid to put her into her crib because I'm afraid she is going to wake up. I hope she sleeps good tonight, but I so need some downtime.

On a lighter night, during one of her fussing sessions today, I swear she said Momma. I was so excited. Every morning she usually wakes me up by saying/babbling bububu. She is a very vocal baby in the morning. Ken and I laughed and said it sounds like she is saying bubba and that would not surprise us at all if Bubba was not her 1st word because she totally adores her big brother. I think the Momma thing just might have been a fluke and she has not said it since, but hey it was music to my ears even if she did not know what she was saying.

Cool School Gets an A+

I just have to blog about this awesome toy. The Cool School Station rocks. Kaden got this toy from my parents for Christmas and it really is awesome. He loves it and will play with it for hours. I've literally had to pull him away several times. It is great because A. it is educational, B. it is powered via a UBS hook up and does not require batteries, and C. it is Fisher Price and that is a name you can trust. Not that anyone probably needs toys after the holidays, but if your child is between 3-6 yrs old this would make a great birthday present. I give this toy 2 thumbs up!!

A New Year Means....

Well of course the new year brings new year resolutions. At 1st I was thinking, why make a resolution?? I started looking back on my resolution post from last year and I kept up with some of them. Not too bad considering all that I had on my plate last year. So, once again it is a new year and I've been inspired to create a resolution list again. At first I started off with my generic resolution that went something like, be a better wife, mother, friend, sister, daughter, document more, eat healthier, stress less, and well you get the idea. Then I started specifically thinking about how I could generally better my life. After my pondering session, the words "baby steps" came to my mind. I've adopted the "You've gotta start somewhere" mantra for 2009. I hope that when 2010 comes around I can look back at this post and say, wow 2009 was a superb year. Drumroll, please.....

Here's my top 10 list for 2009
1. Keep a running list of my goals. I think this is a great way to track my progress and since it is a live list I can keep adding to it. Gosh, I feel like I'm back in "Corporate America",lol!!
2. Read the Bible. I admit it, I'm guilty in this area. I've read my kids their kiddie Bibles more than I have ready my own in the past few years. Today our Pastor talked about strengthening your relationship with God by giving him 15 minutes of your day to read the Bible, pray meditate, and etc. I had been thinking about his message this evening and I happen to read another blog posting from one of my friend's from high school, Suzanne, and she is doing the One Year Bible Online. I'm joining her and I'm going to do the One year Bible reading plan too. The convenience of reading online makes this a totally obtainable task since I'm online alot!! This is totally fitting for my 2009 mantra because I'm taking baby steps and starting somewhere
3. I've also decided to hop on the 365 days of photo journaling. I started a new blog that will capture my photo obsession for 365 days!! Hope you decide to follow my picture story for 2009. http://365withthethompsons.blogspot.com/ Since, I'm a blog-a-holic I will have no issues keeping up with 2 blogs.
4. Learn my camera inside and out, sign up for a photography class, and just have fun with my photography obsession. I guess that means practice, practice, practice.
5. Get caught up scrapbooking. I'm going all digi and I am determined to get caught up since I now do not have to get out all of my million paper scrapbooking supplies out.
6. Incorporate some daily Kindergarten readiness activities into our daily routine. K&K both got some great Pre-K and K books from my Sister from Christmas and they have enjoyed what we have done so far. I can not believe my baby will start Kindergarten in '09.
7. Eating out less. Since we were basically all sick the last week and a half we have eaten all but 2 meals at home. Yes, that is an all time record for this household. Normally, we are an eat out on the go family. I have to admit that I've actually enjoyed eating at home and sitting down together as a family at our table. It's nice to just sit down as a family and enjoy each other. I know this may sound cheesy, but it is so true. When I was growing up some of my best memories were all sitting down together at dinner time. The kids seem to enjoy eating at home too because they have been actually finishing their meals. I think this is a win/win resolution.
8.Start some sort of exercise plan. Not sure what this entails just yet, but I'm going to do something. I need to find my motivation 1st. Maybe I will take "baby step" and start by making my treadmill accessible so that I can use it when I'm ready.
9.Try a new recipe at least once a month. This past week I tried 3 new recipes and it was fun because it made cooking and eating more interesting than the norm.
10. Stress less, love more, laugh often and enjoy my blessed life!!

Kowie's got a tooth...

I was just looking in Kohen's mouth and we almost have a visible tooth!! I can feel it and her little gums are swollen and red with a tiny slit. Her bottom left incisor should be making its grand debut any day now. Wow, I can't believe that we are about to say goodbye to that toothless grin.

A proper welcome for '09

On Friday night we had a belated New Years party with the Hubbs since we were all sick on New Years Eve. We rang in the belated New Year with some yummy hour devours, drank our cocktails in our fun Lolita flutes, and got our groove on with Rockband. The kids did not enjoy our Rockband session, but they managed to keep themselves entertained while we were jamming out. For our next Rockband session I'm recruiting the Rockband master, Dirty D, aka Diana. She pretty much rules on Rockbank and Courtney and I sure could have used her mad skills. Here's a few pics:

Happy New Y ear!!!!!

Goodbye 2008 and hello 2009!!!!!
We spent a chill and low key evening at home. I can not believe our kids have remained asleep since fireworks have been going off non-stop and Kensley went to sleep crying with her ears. Amazingly, they are still asleep and that is a good thing!! We wish everyone love, peace, happiness, health, prosperity, and many wonderful memories and blessings in 2009!!
